South Florida Real Estate Agent and Family Found Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide in Doral
A South Florida real estate professional, her two young daughters, and her former husband were found dead inside a residence in Doral, Florida, in what authorities are investigating as an apparent murder-suicide.
The victims were identified as Melanie Hyer, 46, her daughters Savannah Whiten, 11, and Sienna Whiten, 8, and Ryan Charles Whiten, 42. Law enforcement officers discovered the bodies Tuesday evening while conducting a welfare check at a home located in the gated Doral Isles community.
According to investigators, all four victims suffered fatal stab wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the incident or a possible motive. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office continues to lead the investigation.
Hyer was a well-known figure in South Florida’s real estate industry, specializing in probate real estate, estate sales, luxury waterfront properties, and guardianship-related transactions. Over a career spanning more than two decades, she facilitated the sale of more than 1,000 residential and commercial properties across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.
Her professional journey began with Keller Williams Realty before she joined Pro Estate Realty in 2022. Industry records indicate that her most significant recent residential transaction was the sale of a Miami property valued at approximately $3.1 million earlier this year.
Friends, colleagues, and local officials expressed shock and sadness following the tragedy. Doral Mayor Christi Fraga, who reportedly knew Hyer personally, described the incident as an “unimaginable tragedy” for both the family and the broader community.
Neighbors reported seeing the children riding bicycles with their father just days before the incident. Savannah and Sienna attended Downtown Doral Academy, where they were remembered as beloved students by classmates, teachers, and staff.
In a message shared with parents, school officials described the loss as devastating and offered support resources to students and families affected by the tragedy.
As investigators continue to gather evidence, authorities have not confirmed how long the victims had been deceased before they were discovered. Officials have also not announced whether any additional individuals are being sought in connection with the case.
The tragedy has deeply impacted the Doral community and the South Florida real estate industry, where Hyer was widely recognized for her professional accomplishments and longstanding presence in the market.
The investigation remains active, and authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
