Portland police arrest 33 in human trafficking crackdown along NE 82nd
Over the past two months, the Portland Police Bureau’s Human Trafficking Unit (HTU) intensified patrols along NE 82nd Avenue and NE Sandy Boulevard in response to community complaints and observed nuisance activities related to sexual exploitation. This initiative led to the arrest or citation of 33 individuals for commercial sexual solicitation and unlawful prostitution procurement activities. Additionally, several suspects were detained for separate offenses, including firearm-related charges and outstanding warrants. During these operations, authorities seized two firearms and towed six vehicles.
The HTU collaborated with Safety Compass, a non-profit organization offering advocacy services to individuals under 25 who have survived commercial sexual exploitation and human trafficking. Approximately 30 providers were contacted and offered resources and advocacy support by the PPB’s Victim Services Unit and Safety Compass. The HTU acknowledges the complexity of these cases, citing barriers such as repeated traumatic exposures and fear of retaliation, which often deter survivors from coming forward. The unit remains committed to providing trauma-informed, victim-centered services in partnership with community organizations.
Authorities urge anyone who suspects human trafficking to contact 911, the PPB’s non-emergency line at 503-823-3333, or the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888.
