A 21-year-old Yazidi woman, Fawzia Amin Sido, has been rescued after more than ten years in captivity. She was originally kidnapped by ISIS in 2014 when the group attacked Sinjar, Iraq. Over the years, she was trafficked through Syria, Turkey, and Egypt before ending up in Gaza, where she was held captive by Hamas. Her escape was facilitated by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), in coordination with the U.S. and international actors, after her captor was killed. Fawzia has since been reunited with her family in Iraq. Thousands of Yazidi women remain missing from the 2014 ISIS attack, and efforts continue to locate and rescue them.
